At this time, BHS does not have an established orchestral program. However, we do host a number of string players within the bands. Some discussion is needed before a proper placement can be made. Final enrollment is done by permission only.

If enough string students are registered at one time, and there is interest, we can organize an orchestra club at BHS with little hassle at all. This is something that should be student driven, but Mr Thomas is will be happy to purchase music, set up performances, and facilitate rehearsals.

BISD may be interested in adding an orchestra class, if there is enough interest.

In band classes, string students can expect to play the following parts:

• Violin | Flute or Oboe

• Viola | Flute or Oboe (transposition needed)

• Cello | Bassoon, Trombone, or Euphonium

• Bass | String Bass (standard in some band music) or Tuba

One benefit to registering for band at BHS as a string player is that by registering for a large ensemble, students become eligible for a host of other programs:

• WMEA All-State Honor Orchestra

• NAfME All-Northwest Honor Orchestra

• OMEA Regional Solo & Ensemble Contest

• WMEA State Solo & Ensemble Contest

• Other local youth symphonies that require co-enrollment in a school large ensemble
