Course Description
Wind Ensemble is BHS's top wind band.  Placement into this ensemble is done through an audition and interview process.  This class is intended to leave students well prepared for participating in music after high school, either as a music major, minor, or non-major in college, or just as a community member continuing to play an instrument into adulthood.  Students in this group will learn the more advanced concepts of high school level musical theory, stretch their technical proficiency, strive towards collegiate level ensemble musicianship in a variety of challenging and rewarding concert literature, and participate in some supportive classroom based chamber music performance opportunities.  Maintaining a functional wind instrument, and attending all assigned performances is mandatory.  There is a $25 annual uniform fee for the course, and some students will need to pay an additional maintenance fee for using a school owned instrument.  Marching Band and the spring trip are optional for Wind Ensemble members.
Symphonic Band

Concert Band is the natural continuation of middle school band for most 9th grade wind students.  Here, we acclimate to high school band by striving for the next level of musical precision, expression, and achievement.  We will learn the beginning concepts of music theory, perform challenging and rewarding concert literature, and work through a variety of technical exercises and chamber music opportunities to become more mature and accomplished musicians.  Maintaining a functional wind instrument and attending all assigned performances is mandatory.  There is no audition required for enrollment in Concert Band.  There is a $25 annual uniform fee for the course, and some students will need to pay an additional maintenance fee for using a school owned instrument.  Marching Band and the spring trip are optional for Concert Band members.
